Who’s Running McCain’s Campaign Anyway?
It is no secret that Obama has received more media coverage than McCain. Walk past a newsstand and see how many Obamas are staring back at you. McCain’s media presence is lacking in comparison to Obama, but anyone running against the first viable Black presidential candidate would suffer the same fate. I would even venture to say that the result would’ve been the same had Hillary Clinton clinched the nomination.

Around the World in Under 80 Days
If you were to ask ten
Americans to assess the potential impact of a U.S. visit by the German
Chancellor, on German politics, my guess is you would probably get ten
variations of “huh?” in response. (Not to mention at least 5 variations of
“Who’s the German Chancellor?” For the record it’s Angela Merkel.) And yet
during Barack Obama’s whirlwind trip abroad it became crystal clear that not
only are other countries well aware of who our current leader is, but they are
also aware of who may replace him.

Between a Barack and a Hard Place
I knew that
it was too good to be true. CNN was producing a special on African Americans
entitled, “Black in America.”
I had the privilege of attending a special screening of the series and found it
moving, informative and reflective of many joys and challenges faced by black
Americans. To hear what being black in America is like
in narrative form was engaging and necessary. Hearing from “everyday” people
about their experiences was way over due.

So here I am in Denver for the Democratic
National Convention to see firsthand what the Democrats are doing to prepare
for battle in the Fall. Below are a few highlights of the week so far to give
you an idea of what the convention is really like--beyond the stagecraft you
see on TV.
Hurt Feelings
Senator Barack Obama is against reparations – surprise,
surprise.
Barack Obama “supports”
Affirmative Action but not “handouts” or “quotas.”
The only thing that Barack Obama seems to be
able to speak about concretely and emphatically is what he will
not do for black folks. The man who has
been called out on numerous occasions by friends and foes alike for
flip-flopping on issues like the war in Iraq, the gas crisis and ways to
improve the economy, is as solid as rock on issues pertaining to Black
people.
